Marineholmen RASLab in partnership with the University of Bergen, ILAB and AMC
Technologies is testing and further developing the eMar app to collect data on fish welfare
and aid is decision making with regard to humane endpoints for fish welfare. The two
studies so far have been funded by the 3Rs organization Norecopa is testing the app’s
functionality and applicability to fish research studies.

“We hope with some refinement, this approach will be commonplace among our contracted
research studies at RASLab, making fish welfare assessments a standard part of all fish
research” explained Mark Powell, CEO of RASLab.

It is hope that the App based technology can be further developed to eventually automate
welfare assessments on fish.
